Analysis of Intelligent Cloud in Business Central

Hi,

in my last blog post I wrote how we can setup replication data from Business Central OnPrem to the Business Central cloud version using Intelligent Cloud feature.

In this blog post, I will write what happened after we activated Run Replication Now.

When the replication is finished we will receive message that replication status is completed, and in right part of the window we will have statistics about successfull and failed replication.

Clicking on the action tab we can schedule automatic replications. In the Intelligent cloud schedule we can set if we want daily or weekly schedule.

If we choose daily all setup which we need to do is to enter Start time of replication and to turn on Activate schedule boolean. In case that we want specify weekly recurrence we need to choose day(s) in a week and time when we want to automatically start replication via Intelligent cloud.

To see what happened in the background after replication finished first I will navigate to My Settings -> choose Company and in new window company which I have chosen for replication is now available to log into.

Next, all my users who are not super users in Dynamics 365 Business Central Cloud will get Intelligent Cloud permission set.

If I take a look into Intelligent Cloud permission set I will see that it is read only permission set for most of the tables and in that case my user MEGANB can only read data in Dynamics 365 Business Central SaaS.

Now I will create some small extension and run replication again. First I will deploy extension to my Dynamics 365 Business Central OnPrem solution and enter some data.

Now if I return to my Dynamics 365 Business Central Online my extension will not be available so I will start replication again. After the replication is over I will get information that there is one new table in replication.

Now if I take a look for my Book list page I will not find it because extension is not replicated to Dynamics 365 Business Central SaaS. We can find that information in the Installed extensions page.

Now I will install my extension to the Dynamics 365 Business Central SaaS.

After my extension is deployed successfully I can now navigate to my Book list but still list will be empty.

Now for the third time I will start data replication and after the replication is completed I will see data from my Dynamics 365 Business Central OnPrem in my Dynamics 365 Business Central SaaS.

Now when I have the extension installed on both Dynamics 365 Business Central OnPrem and Dynamics 365 Business Central SaaS and I have data in another company and try to replicate another company for the first time all data in the extensions will be replicated. For example Cronus International.

If I uninstall extension from Dynamics 365 Business Central SaaS, change data in extension on Dynamics 365 Business Central OnPrem and again run the replication, data in the extension will be replicated, BUT as the extension in uninstalled data will not be accessible. As soon as I install extension again I will see replicated data.

Conclusion:

  1. If the extension is installed on Dynamics 365 Business Central OnPrem and not deployed on Dynamics 365 Business Central SaaS -> data will not be replicated
  2. If the extension is installed on Dynamics 365 Business Central OnPrem, and deployed and installed on Dynamics 365 Business Central SaaS -> data will be replicated
  3. If the extension is installed on Dynamics 365 Business Central OnPrem, and deployed but not installed on Dynamics 365 Business Central SaaS -> data will be replicated, but data will not be visible because extension is not installed, as soon as you install extension back you will see the data.

If you try to setup Intelligent Cloud from Assisted setup page from the replicated companies in Dynamics 365 Business Central SaaS you will not be able to do that (for now).

That is all for this blog post, thanks for reading.

Br,

Renato.

      Hi Mohana,
in examples I created custom extension and data were replicated to the cloud when the extension was deployed to the cloud. What I saw is that buffer tables are not replicated, as well as system tables.

      Br,
      Renato.
